Microsoft Email Security Change
Dynamics GP is now under the Modern Lifecycle policy
It is important for Dynamics GP users to know that on the 1st of October 2022, Microsoft will switch off ‘Basic Authentication’ and will switch to the more secure method using 'Modern Authentication'.
Microsoft added 'Modern Authentication' functionality using TLS 1.2 and/or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to Dynamics GP in 2020 to release 18.3. Older versions of Dynamics GP (18.2 and prior) do not use 'Modern Authentication'.
This means that users using Dynamics GP 18.2 (known as the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2019 release) and prior will have to upgrade their system to the latest release if they wish to continue using email and workflow functionality. The current version of Dynamics GP is 18.4 which was released in October 2021.
We strongly recommend that customers schedule an upgrade of their system before this change takes place.

Why are Microsoft making this change?
'Basic Authentication' is an outdated industry standard, and threats posed by 'Basic Authentication' have increased. Microsoft will turn off 'Basic Authentication' for all its customers due to the risk imposed. It is important that customers stop using 'Basic Authentication' before Microsoft does.
I have noticed email issues already?
During 2022 Microsoft will roll out the changes necessary to support this effort, it will begin disabling 'Basic Authentication' for some customers with usage on a short-term and temporary basis to remind them to upgrade and cease using 'Basic Authentication'. During this time all clients and apps that use 'Basic Authorisation' will be affected, including workflow and email functionality from Dynamics GP.
What do I need to do?
To avoid an interruption of email functionality in Dynamics GP we are recommending to customers that they upgrade to Dynamics GP 18.4 and enabling 'Modern Authentication' well in advance of the 1st of October 2022. Get in touch with us to discuss your options and how to move forward.
